From a mother to a child, a friend to a friend, a lover to a loved one.
There are some songs that I avoid listening to, not because they are bad but because they are so good that I know I will over-listen to them, grow tired and then move on. I tried but couldn’t not listen to I leave everything to you. The simple, raw music and the complex, beautiful lyrics just pull you in.
The song is about certainity in the face of uncertainity. Life is uncertain and change is the only constant. Yet, in some way, things usually work out. We find what we’re looking for, and there are more good days than bad. This track holds onto the hope that even when we have no idea what comes next, we can be certain that things will be fine.
The song is sung by a mother for her children.
Everything I ever knew,
I passed it onto you
The good and the bad.
Our lives are undeniably shaped by our parents. The mother here acknowledges the influence they’ve had, hoping their children will become wonderful adults and not resent them for any unintentional mistakes passed on along the way.
Another interpretation is that its about accepting , an ending relationship.
Something that I think about these days :
Everything I ever knew ,
Will be forgotten in a few more moments.
I'll be starting from the start ,
With the same ache in my heart ,
When this all ends.
The ache in our hearts at the end of one chapter is the very same feeling that drives us to begin the next.
